Lithuanian Ambassador to Israel honored the memory of the victims of the Genocide of Lithuanian Jews
Created: 2021.09.27 / Updated: 2021.09.27 12:28
On September 23rd, Lithuanian ambassador to Israel H.E. Lina Antanavičienė honored the memory of Lithuanian Jews massacred during Holocaust by lighting up the candles by the memorials in Tel Aviv cemeteries of „Kiryat Shaul“ and „Nahalat Yitzhak“.
These monuments, erected by local litvak community, are meant to honor the tragic memory of the Lithuanian Jewry.
„By honoring all the victims of Holocaust in Lithuania, I also have lit up a candle for the soul of young Jewish girl Chaja, who was murdered in the forest just outside my native Ukmergė. We do not know neither your family name, nor the date of your birthday, Chaja. But we all know, that you were, you lived and you dreamed. You will not be forgotten, Chaja. And the monuments must be erected for the ones like you, and not the ones, who sowed death...I truly believe such day will come.“
This year marks 80 years from the beginning of Lithuanian Jewry genocide. 23 September 1943 is the date of liquidation of Vilnius ghetto – this day therefore is declared as Remembrance Day of the Victims of Genocide of Lithuanian Jews.
