On 8 January 1992 Israel recognized Lithuania de jure.
On 8 January 1992, Israel recognized the re-established independent State of Lithuania de jure. Diplomatic relations were re-established on the same day.
From 1996 to 2001, Romas Jonas Misiūnas served as the first Ambassador of Lithuania to Israel after the re-establishment of independence.
From 1992 to 1993 Naomi Ben-Ami served as the first Chargé d’Affaires of Israel to Lithuania (resided in Latvia).
