69 YEARS SINCE THE LIQUIDATION OF THE VILNA GHETTO COMMEMORATED IN YAD VASHEM

On 22th September 2012 an event in commemoration of the 69 years since the liquidation of the Vilna Ghetto took place in Yad Vashem World Holocaust Center and Museum. The commemoration ceremony was attended by the representatives of Yad Vashem, representatives of the Association of Vilna and Vilna vicinity Jews in Israel Beit Vilna and Association of Lithuanian Jews in Israel, Holocaust survivors and their families, and emigrants from Lithuania. Ambassador of Lithuania Darius Degutis read the letter of the Prime Minister of Lithuania Andrius Kubilius to the attendees of the commemoration ceremony. In his letter A. Kubilius pays tribute to the memory of Lithuanian Jews murdered in the Holocaust and notes the necessity to prevent such tragedies in the future, as well as the restoration of historical justice, education on the Holocaust, and promotion of tolerance.

Andrius Kubilius in his letter emphasizes Lithuania’s goal to continue close cooperation with Israel in fields of innovation technologies and science, agriculture and industry. According to the Prime Minister, partnership based on the mutual interest ensures closer relations between the two countries.
