A CELEBRATION OF LITHUANIA’S INDEPENDENCE RESTORATION AND THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN LITHUANIA AND ISRAEL

On 6 March 2012 during an official visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Audronius Ažubalis to the State of Israel the Embassy of Lithuania held a diplomatic reception devoted to the restoration of Lithuania’s Independence and to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Israel. Knesset members, representatives of Israeli Government, business, culture and academic elite, diplomatic corps, journalists, Litvaks and members of Lithuanian community have gathered to the reception.

During the celebration A. Azubalis conferred the award of Senior of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs “Lithuanian Diplomacy Star” on two Israeli citizens – Deputy Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pinhas Avivi and first Israeli Ambassador to Lithuania Tova Herzl – for fostering bilateral relations between Lithuania and Israel. Avigdor Liberman, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel, Yuli Edelstein, Minister of Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs and Uzi Landau, Minister of Energy and Water extended their greetings on behalf of the State of Israel. They highly praised the friendly and productive Israeli-Lithuanian relations, welcomed the success of the two countries and peoples.

The guests of the evening were pleased by performance of the world renowned, Lithuanian born violinist Julian Rachlin. Lithuanian and Israeli anthems were solemnly performed by a famous Israeli Litvak singer, Limor Shapira. The student jazz band from the Center for Jazz Studies at the Israeli Conservatory for Music, Tel Aviv, played at the reception.
