A CONSULAR MISSION TO SOUTH AFRICA ORGANIZED BY THE EMBASSY IN ISRAEL WAS HELD IN JOHANNESBURG

On November 24 - December 3, 2012 the first consular mission to South Africa was organized by Lithuanian Embassy in Israel. The mission was held in the office of Honorary Consul of Lithuania Mr. Raymond Joffe. Services and consultations were given to more than two hundred Lithuanian citizens and persons of Lithuanian origin majority of whom are representatives of the Litvak Jewish community.

Litvak community lives in South Africa for nearly a century and gathers around 80 thousand people. Most of the representatives of the Litvak community are well established and much respected members of South African business and social community.

South African Litvaks have a great interest in Lithuania. Many of them seek to restore their connections with their ancestors’ homeland. Due to it the flow of tourists from South Africa to Lithuania increases steadily and first South African investors are entering Lithuanian market - one of the largest South African companies “BIDVEST” acquired a Lithuanian company and is successfully expanding its activities.

The Embassy of Lithuania is planning to continue organizing consular missions to South Africa.
