ABRAHAM SUTZKEVER WAS COMMEMORATED IN TEL AVIV
On 21 January an event to commemorate one year from the death of the internationally renowned Yiddish poet, founder of the Lithuanian Jewish museum Abraham Sutzkever was held in Tel Aviv. Famous Israeli poets, musicians, performers participated in the event. They shared their memories, read Abraham Sutzkever’s poems and extracts from his books, sang his songs.
Ambassador of Lithuania in Israel Darius Degutis stressed in his address to the audience that Abraham Sutzkever and his creative work are highly appreciated in Lithuania: his book of memoirs “From Vilna ghetto” will be soon published in Lithuania and presented at the 25th International Jerusalem book fair in February. Discussion “C. Milosz and A.Sutzekver: Two poets of lost Vilnius” will be also held in the literary café of the book fair.
On 5 February 2008, A.Sutzkever was awarded the Cross of the Knight of the Order of Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas.
