Ambassador attended the event dedicated to Chiune Sugihara
On October 13th, Lithuanian ambassador to Israel Lina Antanavičienė took part in a ceremony in Jerusalem, dedicated to the commemoration of prominent Japanese diplomat, the Righteous Among Nations, Mr. Chiune Sugihara, who during the IIWW was saving Jews, fleeing from Nazi atrocities.
In the memory of Ch. Sugihara and for his lifetime merits to the Jewish nation and State of Israel, a cornerstone laying ceremony was held in Kiryat Hayovel park.
During her speech, Lithuanian ambassador reminded to all gathered guests, that during his diplomatic posting in Kaunas, Ch. Sugihara’s accomplished a heroic mission, which saved thousands of Jewish lives: “Let us never forget, that human life, freedom, democracy, right of expression – these are our highest values. And they need to be protected every day. In every country. Chiune Sugihara did it 80 years ago. It’s up to us to do this today”.
