On September 16, 2025, Ambassador Brūzga participated in the commemorative ceremony to mark the 82nd anniversary of the liquidation of the Vilnius Ghetto, held at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem.
Addressing the members of the Association of Jews from Vilnius and vicinity in Israel and representatives of the Yad Vashem Center, Ambassador Brūzga spoke about the tragic fate of Jews who lived in Lithuanian shtetls, the responsibility of Lithuanians who participated in genocide against Jews, and emphasized the importance of personal guilt and collective memory to achieve reconciliation and forgiveness.
“The tragedy of the Holocaust is also the tragedy of the Lithuanian people because we failed the test of humanity, decency and personal responsibility”, Ambassador Brūzga stated.
According to the ambassador, “even today, when the world is facing the spread of hate speech and aggression, it is important not to forget to preserve humanity and maintain compassion.”
Honoring the memory of the Jews murdered during the Holocaust, Ambassador A. Brūzga laid a wreath at the memorial.
Founded in 1953, the Yad Vashem Center conducts educational projects, scientific research, collects documents and artifacts, and organizes conferences and exhibitions. One of the halls of the center commemorates the Jews murdered in Paneriai.
