AMBASSADOR OF LITHUANIA IN ISRAEL DARIUS DEGUTIS MET WITH THE TEACHERS FROM LITHUANIA PARTICIPATING IN THE SEMINAR ON HOLOCAUST ORGANIZED BY YAD VASHEM
On 22nd August 2012 Ambassador of Lithuania in Israel Darius Degutis met with the teachers from Lithuania participating in the seminar on the subject of Holocaust organized by Yad Vashem World Holocaust Center and Museum. The seminar is intended for the teachers who work in the field of Holocaust education.
During the seminar the newest Holocaust researches, as well as the latest methodological material for teaching the subject of Holocaust, is being introduced to the teachers. The seminars of such kind are being organized by Yad Vashem for ten years in a row. This year twenty teachers from different regions of Lithuania are participating in the seminar.
During the meeting Ambassador Darius Degutis made a brief overview on the development of the Lithuanian-Israeli bilateral relations and discussed the perspective projects in the fields of culture and education. D. Degutis noted the importance of schools and other education institutions in introducing the students to the Lithuanian history, it‘s most tragic details, cultural and historical heritage of the Lithuanian Jews, as well as in developing human tolerance and respect.
Darius Degutis thanked the representatives of Yad Vashem for their efforts while preparing the programs of the seminars and expressed his hope for this important initiative to continue. Since 2003, the most active teachers from Lithuania are being chosen and sent to participate in the seminars organized by Yad Vashem in accordance with the Cooperation Agreement between the International Commission for the Evaluation of the Crimes of the Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania.
