AMBASSADOR OF THE EUROPEAN MEN BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP 2011 ARVYDAS SABONIS WAS RECEIVED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL SHIMON PERES
On April 28 President of the State of Israel Shimon Peres received the official Ambassador of the European Men Basketball Championship 2011 famous former basketball player Arvydas Sabonis.
During the meeting Arvydas Sabonis presented EuroBasket 2011 which will take place in Lithuania this year, stressing that it will be a historic event for Lithuania. He invited President Shimon Peres to visit Lithuania during the Championship to support the Israeli basketball team.
The role of sports in modern life was widely discussed with President Shimon Peres emphasizing that sports is first of all education, not only competion. In sports, according to the President, there are no racial or religious barriers, the best win in sports. It teaches children to compete without violence. He stressed that the Peres Center is making every effort in uniting through sports Jewish and Arab children.
President Shimon Peres invited Arvydas Sabonis together with the young Lithuanian basketball players to come to Israel to a joint with the young Israeli and Palestinian sporstmen training camp.
Arvydas Sabonis presented the President with the Lithuanian basketball team T-sheet marked by No.11 and with Peres‘name inscribed on it.
