AWARDS PRESENTED BY THE PRIME MINISTER OF LITHUANIA
On 22 December 2010, during his visit in Israel the Prime Minister of Lithuania presented the Lithuanian National Prize in Culture and Arts to the famous Lithuanian-Israeli writer Icchokas MERAS. This is the most prestigious award of the Government of Lithuania in the sphere of culture and arts. Each year six recipients of the Lithuanian National Prize in Culture and Arts are chosen by a special committee from among the most outstanding Lithuanian people of culture and arts. This year the writer Icchokas Meras, citizen of Lithuania and Israel, has been chosen as the recipient of the Lithuanian National Prize in Culture and Arts for revealing the tragic human experiences of the 20th century in modern Lithuanian fiction.
The Prime Minister decorated the Ambassador Chen IVRI APTER, former ambassador of the State of Israel to the Republic of Lithuania, with the commemorative medal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania „Diplomacy star“ for his endeavors in fostering relations between the State of Israel and the Republic of Lithuania.
The Prime Minister also presented his letters of appreciation and Prime Minister’s medal to commemorate the 20 years anniversary of the Re-establishment of Independence of the Republic of Lithuania to the following distinguished Israeli and Lithuanian personalities for their personal contribution in developing and strengthening relations between the State of Israel and the Republic of Lithuania:
