BIRTHDAY OF THE FAMOUS LITHUANIAN JEWISH WRITER ICCHOKAS MERAS MARKED IN TEL AVIV

On 8 October 2013, the famous Lithuanian Jewish, Lithuanian National Prize laureat Icchokas Meras turned 79 years old.

Deputy Minister of Culture of Lithuania Darius Mažintas and Ambassador Darius Degutis visited the writer at the Tel Aviv Bait Balev hospital where Icchokas Meras is being treated after a major illness. Deputy Minister and Ambassador presented greeting letters from the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė, the Lithuanian Parliament Deputy Chairman Gediminas Kirkilas, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius and Minister of Culture Šarūnas Birutis.

Icchokas Meras was congratulated by the special song performed by Lithuanian opera tenor Rafailas Karpis.

The Deputy Minister also awarded the writer Icchokas Meras with the Medal of Honor of the Ministry of Culture.

Darius Mažintas conveyed greetings from Lithuanian leaders expressing sincere gratitude for the many years of creative work, educating in building the civic society and spreading the name of Lithuania around the world.
