CHIEF SCIENTIST OF ISRAEL CALLS FOR STRENGHTENING OF THE RELATIONS WITH LITHUANIA
On 6th August 2012 Ambassador of Lithuania in Israel Darius Degutis and Commercial Attaché Kristina Biraitė met with the Chief Scientist of Israel Avi Hasson. The goal of the institution of the Chief Scientist is to assist in the development of technology in Israel as a means of fostering economic growth, encouraging technological innovation and entrepreneurship.
During the meeting parties agreed that closer cooperation in R&D and innovation between both countries could be achieved by implementing concrete projects by Lithuanian and Israeli entities. It was noted that the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Lithuania and the Government of the State of Israel on bilateral cooperation in private sector in industrial R&D should play an important role in fostering better cooperation.
During the meeting it was noted that the Lithuanian and Israeli trade and economic relations are developing very well – in 2011 the bilateral trade increased by more than 60%, and the biggest business mission from Israel is currently being organized – a hundred participants from Israel will come to the International Life Science Baltics event which will take place in Lithuania in September 2012.
The event, which will be opened by the 2009 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry Ada Yonath, is organized with Israeli partners. Ambassador Degutis extended the invitation to the Chief Scientist to join the numerous Israeli delegation.
