Commemoration of Yom HaShoah
The Ambassador of Lithuania to Israel Lina Antanavičienė took part in the events dedicated to Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) on 27-28 April.
On 27 of April she was honored to be invited to solemn ceremony, which was taking place in Jerusalem. Israel's Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, President Isaac Herzog and assorted dignitaries joined Holocaust survivors at Yad Vashem memorial complex in this ceremony of commemoration. Holocaust survivor Arie Shilansky, who was born in Lithuania in 1928, has lit one of the six torches, dedicated to the memory of 6 million innocent Jewish men, women and children who perished in the Holocaust.
On 28 of April she visited the Kiriat Shaul and Nahalat Yitzhak cemeteries in Tel Aviv. There, together with the representatives of the Association of Lithuanian Jews in Israel and of the Association of Jews from Vilnius and the Vicinity, she paid tribute to the memory of Lithuanian and other European Jews, who innocently perished during the horrors of the Holocaust. L. Antanavičienė emphasized in her speech, that only acting with right moral and ethical intent we can build a new world in which words "Never Again" becomes a reality, not just a nice declaration - the best monument to 6 million innocent Shoa victims would be preservation of their memory and our good and right deeds.
