FAMOUS LITHUANIAN WRITER ICCHOKAS MERAS ESCORTED TO HIS LAST JOURNEY
On 17 March 2014 the prominent Lithuanian novelist and screenwriter Icchokas Meras was bidden the last farewell at the Tel Aviv Yarkon cemetery in Israel. The legendary Lithuanian writer passed away at the age of 79 after a long and serious illness.
Lithuanian Ambassador to Israel Darius Degutis delivered a farewell remarks during the funeral ceremony. The President of Lithuania D. Grybauskaitė, Prime Minister A. Butkevičius, Speaker of the Parliament L. Graužinienė, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament G. Kirkilas, Minister of Foreign Affairs L. Linkevičius, member of the European Parliament V. Landsbergis and many other well respected public figures, Lithuanian Jewish community sent their condolences to the family members of the writer – his wife Frida Meras, daughter Mirijam and his sister Janina Girsh.
