GOVERNOR OF THE BANK OF ISRAEL HIGHLY RESPECTS ACHIEVMENTS OF LITHUANIAN ECONOMY
On 7 January 2013 Governor of the Bank of Israel Stanley Fischer in his meeting with Lithuanian Ambassador Darius Degutis expressed his high appreciation of Lithuanian Government’s economic policy measures in curbing the economic crisis. Prominent economist, former Vice President of the World Bank and First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund , whose family has roots in Lithuania, noted that he, as an advocate of austerity policy, has been attentively following very positive economic development tendencies in Lithuania and other Baltic states.
D. Degutis presented to the Governor the latest economic indicators of Lithuania, results of the dynamic economic cooperation between Israel and Lithuania, described favorable investment climate in Lithuania and extended official invitation for the Governor to visit Lithuania.
S. Fischer is widely praised by international experts for Israel‘s National Bank fiscal policy which allowed Israel to avoid economic slowdown in 2008-2010.
