IN TEL AVIV, FOR THE MERITS DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR, JUDIT SPERLINGIENĖ DECORATED WITH THE LITHUANIAN STATE AWARD
On 18 November 2013, the Lithuanian Minister of Economy Evaldas Gustas, during his visit to Israel, decorated the Lithuanian-Israeli citizen Judit Sperlingienė with the Lithuanian State award the Life Saving Cross. The award ceremony was held at the Embassy of Lithuania in Israel.
The Presidential decree to award Judit Sperlingienė for her merits during the Second World War rescuing Jews from the Nazi genocide was adopted on 9 September 2013 in commemoration of the Lithuanian Jewish Genocide day. During the Second World War, J. Sprelingienė rescued Rina Zupavičiūtė-Wolbe from the Kaunas ghetto.
Lithuanian Minister of Economy E. Gustas thanked J. Sprelingienė for her courage rescuing Jewish children. Rina Zupavičiūtė-Wolbe, who was saved by J. Sperlingienė, also attended the award ceremony in Tel Aviv.
On November 18, Lithuanian Minister of Economy E. Gustas also visited Yad Vashem World Holocaust Centre and Museum where he paid tribute to the victims of the Holocaust by laying a wreath at the Yad Vashem memorial, and also signed the guest book of Yad Vashem.
