ISRAELI FOREIGN MINISTER HIGHLY VALUES COOPERATION WITH LITHUANIA
On 3 July 2014 the outgoing Ambassador of Lithuania to Israel Darius Degutis met with the Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman. During the meeting A. Liberman emphasized the importance of bilateral relations between Lithuania and Israel, noted excellent cooperation in various fields and thanked Lithuania for its position in international organizations concerning problematic issues of the Middle East peace process.
During the meeting A. Liberman named bilateral relations between Israel and Lithuania a sincere and genuine partnership of the two countries and nations. The Minister highly evaluated achievements of the bilateral economic and cultural cooperation. He also informed about the plans to open the Embassy of Israel in Lithuania in 2015.
During the meeting the complicated situation in the region was discussed, both the Ambassador and the Foreign Minister expressed their concerns about the possible escalation of the conflict and stressed the importance of using all peaceful means to prevent the expansion of the conflict. A. Liberman also expressed his deep concern over developments in Iraq and Syria.
D. Degutis extended the condolences of the Prime Minister of Lithuania A. Butkevičius and Foreign Minister L. Linkevičius for the deaths of three Israeli teenagers.
