According to Lithuania's Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevicius, Israeli President Shimon Peres' visit will be an impulse for the bilateral relations. The President of Israel will come to Lithuania on Wednesday.

According to Linkevicius, the absence of the Israeli embassy in Lithuania was not a handicap for the development of the bilateral relations.

"This does not trouble the development the relations between Israel and Lithuania," said the minister while giving an interview on radio Ziniu Radijas on Tuesday.

Linkevicius said that during the latter visit in Israel when he met with the high-rank officers he felt that the glance was thrown towards future and the past was being forgotten; however, nobody could be exempted form the performed crimes.

"We cannot forget the past but there is the high time to throw glances towards the future (&). It is the time to look at the future, at the light and I think that the historic Israeli President's visit to Lithunian will serve as a good background. We are looking forward for the President of Israel to come, "said the minister.

Linkevicius said that he saw a lot links between Lithuania and Israel which could help to develop not only the dialogue between Lithuania and Israel but to develop the dialogue between the European Union (EU) and Israel as well.

"The visit is exactly on time because we started to throw glances towards the future; however, I would like to highlight once again that we should not forget the past," said Linkevicius.

Minister agreed that the growing flow of the tourist and the scope of the trade showed good bilateral relations; however, he suggested not forcing events.

"The base is perfect. The understanding is growing. I think that such high-level visits as the visit of the Israeli President will be another impulse. We have to foster this field and be careful, so that no damage will be made, "said Linkevicius.

As reported, the President of Israel Shimon Peres is coming to Lithuania on a state visit on Wednesday.

The Israeli President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, born in Lithuania, will make a visit to our country at the invitation of President Dalia Grybauskaite on the eve of his 90th birthday.

The President of Israel will be on a state visit to Lithuania for two days.
