LATIN PATRIARCH OF JERUSALEM APPRECIATES LITHUANIAN ROLE IN THE UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL
On 22 January 2014 in Jerusalem Lithuanian Ambassador Darius Degutis met with the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Fouad Twal. During the meeting the Middle East peace process and the situation in the region were discussed.
Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem expressed hope that the ongoing negotiations regarding peace agreement between Israel and Palestine will be successful. Fouad Twal said that the role of Lithuania as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council is very important in this process. Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem also told about the visit of Pope Francis to the Holy Land, visiting Jordan, Israel and Palestine, which is planned to take place in May.
Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem is the supreme representative of the Catholic Church in the Holy Land and its activities include the Catholic community in Israel, Palestine, Jordan and Cyprus.
