LITHUANIA IS EXPANDING BUSINESS TIES WITH ISRAEL IN THE INNOVATION FIELD

On 18 November 2013, on the occasion of the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council, a business conference on Strengthening Scientific and R&D Cooperation between Israel and the EU was held in Tel Aviv.  

Continuing his working visit to Israel, the Lithuanian Minister of Economy Evaldas Gustas opened the event and welcomed the numerous guests businessmen from Israel and the European Union, and made a presentation “Partnering with Israel: Innovation Policy Trends in the EU”. The conference was also attended by four leading Lithuanian business incubator managers. The event was organized by the Lithuanian Embassy in Tel Aviv in cooperation with the Israeli - EU Chamber of Commerce and the EU delegation in Israel.

On 18 November 2013, the Minister of Economy also visited the headquarters of the company WIX which is a popular website building platform based in Tel Aviv and is expanding its activities in Lithuania. WIX is an Israeli high-tech start-up, successfully listed on NASDAQ since October 2013.

Minister E. Gustas got acquainted with the Israeli start-up ecosystem – one of the worlds most advanced. The Minister visited accelerator IDC Elevator, where over 40 start-up companies are being developed per year. At the accelerator E. Gustas met with the first and only foreign start-up participating in the program – the CEO of the Lithuanian start-up “TrackDuck” Edmundas Balčiukonis.
