LITHUANIA RANKS SECOND IN EUROPE BY GROWTH OF TOURISTS IN 2011

According to the data published by European Travel Commission (ETC) unifying 33 European national tourism associations, Lithuania is one of the leaders among European countries indicating growth of tourist flow and number of accomodations.

 

According to the ETC review, number of foreign tourists boomed in all Baltic states: in Lithuania by 20,3 percent, Latvia by 20,8%, Estonia by 15,6 %. Romania (12,4 %) and Ireland (12,3 %) are also among the first five. Among countries with the least growth of tourists in 2011 we find the Netherlands and the United Kingdom (each by 3 %), in Montenegro number of tourists in 2011, comparing with 2010, decreased by 0,1 percent.

 

An indicator of growth of number of accomodations provided to foreign tourists in 2011, also places Lithuania in the second position among countries reviewed. With the growth by 19,5 % (comparing with 2010), Lithuania conceded only to Bulgaria (19,9 %), and overtook Latvia (17,7 %), Estonia (17,2 %), Sweden (14,7 %).

 

The ETC report states Lithuania‘s high rating among European countries on the growth of hotel occupancy in 2011. In comparison with 2010, an indicator of hotel occupancy increased by 13,9 % last year, and this is the third best outcome after Iceland (18,6%) and Estonia (17,6%). The least growth of hotel occupancy was indicated in France (0,9%) and Austria (0,4%), whilst Switzerland and Turkey had insignificant decrease of this indicator, by -0,1 and -0,8 % respectively.
