LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA

On 3 February 2011 Darius Degutis, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in the State of Israel, accredited to the Republic of South Africa, presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of South Africa  Mr. Jacob Zuma.

During the conversation following the presentation of  the Letters of Credence Ambassador Darius Degutis stressed that though both countries are geographically remote they  have much in common due to similar and very important for both countries experience – their striving  and fight for freedom and independence. Lithuania having just celebrated its 20th anniversary of independence, will congratulate the Rupublic of South Africa on the same occasion in 2014.

Lithuanian-South African relations are strengthened by 100 thousand Litvak community which contributes much to the prosperity of South Africa.

The Ambassador noted that the next EU-African Union summit will be held in 2013 during Lithuania‘s Presidency of the EU. Lithuania will spare no effort to strengthen EU-African relations.

President of the Republic of South Africa has highly evaluated cooperation  perspectives in the spheres of economy, culture and sports perspectives. He expressed his gratitude for the greetings for sucessfully organized FIFA World Cup and wished Lithuania success and victory in the European basketball championship.

Ambassador Darius Degutis is the fourth diplomatic representative of Lithuania to the Republic of South Africa.

On 20 November 2011 Lithuania and South Africa will celebrate 20 years since establishment of diplomatic relations.
