Lithuanian biotechnology company ProBioSanus has signed a representation agreement with Bharat Israel, one of Israel's largest distributors of consumer, personal hygiene and medical products. It is planned that ProBioSanus’ natural, probiotic-based cleaning and personal care products will already be available to consumers in Israel this autumn. “The procedure for registration of our products in Israel is still waiting, but the initial response to our products in the market is excellent, so we are hoping for a successful start. There is a significant interest in progressive products in Israel; there are a lot of innovative companies in operation here, so the fact that we have entered into this competitive and demanding market is a true evaluation of the products we are developing, and of course, we are grateful for the assistance from Enterprise Lithuania," says ProBioSanus CEO Tomas Andrejauskas.

"An intensive Lithuanian-Israeli cooperation in the field of life sciences began at the Life Science Baltic 2012 life science forum that was organised last year in Vilnius by Enterprise Lithuania and was attended by a delegation from Israel of more than 100 business people and scientists - this was an event of historic significance and dimension in bilateral relations. The agreement between ProBioSanus and Bharat Israel is an excellent illustration of the results of these relations," says Kristina Biraitė, commercial attaché in Israel.

According to Ms Biraitė, Israeli companies are taking a very active interest in possibilities for carrying out clinical research in Lithuania; many of them are already in cooperation with Lithuanian medical institutions. Israel's venture capital funds and their companies are looking into investments in Lithuania. As the life science sector grows in Lithuania, more opportunities to attract investments from Israel will emerge. The Lithuanian and Israeli governments have signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of scientific research. A call for applications for the implementation of joint projects that was organised in accordance with the aforementioned agreement was met with great interest; three joint projects of Lithuanian-Israeli companies were selected and will receive partial funding from both countries.

ProBioSanus develops and manufactures products which have few analogues worldwide - ProBiotic is a line of home and office cleaning products containing probiotics, which not only clean surfaces effectively, but also create a natural defence against harmful bacteria. In this way, these products create a healthier home and work environment with a long lasting effect. "This is a relatively new technology which, in the future, will undoubtedly spark a home care revolution. We plan on expanding the use of probiotics in everyday life by introducing new, innovative products into the market - first and foremost in the fields of personal care, cosmetics and food industries," says Mr Andrejauskas.

Founded in 2012, ProBioSanus currently distributes its products in Lithuania and Scandinavia. The ProBioSanus chemical and microbiological research laboratory, into which more than 1.5 million LTL will be invested, will begin operation shortly. "We have a strong scientific base and intellectual potential In Lithuania, so we are allocating particular attention to the creation of new formulas and products. The new laboratory will help find solutions, and will also help us expand and improve our range of products and create new ones. We will offer some of our expertise to other Lithuanian and foreign producers who, after acquiring a license, will be able to manufacture products according to the formulas we invented," says Mr Andrejauskas, head of ProBioSanus.

ProBioSanus is one of five Lithuanian companies participating in IATI-BIOMED 2013, one of the world's largest life science exhibitions, currently taking place in Tel Aviv. The Lithuanian biotech firm is using this as a venue to present its research and development (R&D) potential. This company is joined at the joint national Enterprise Lithuania stand by Biotechpharma, Ekspla, MedSiNet LT and Optolita, which will also be presenting their achievements and production. The Life Science Baltic 2014 forum, which will be held on 10-12 September 2014, will also be presented at the 13th annual international IATI-BIOMED 2013 exhibition.
