The 5th International film festival „Jewish Eye – World Jewish Film Festival“ takes place 22-30 October in Ashkelon.
The evening of October 23 was dedicated to mark declaration of Vilnius as 2009 cultural capital of Europe. At the beginning of the evening Lithuanian ambassador to Israel A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė and the director S.Beržinis greeted the large number of participants. The evening included the screening of the film „My Vilnius“, directed by S.Beržinis, and a performance by song and dance group Anachnu Kan.
During the 2008 festival several Lithuanian films will be screened - a retrospective of movies by S.Beržinis, „Forest of the gods“ by A.Puipa, „Etude of hope“ and „I leave my child for you“ both by L.Kopač.
The cycle of reportage photographs of the city of Vilnius by Mečys Brazaitis (1903-1952), a Lithuanian military captain and photographer is on exhibition during the festival. The author in his photographs pays a special attention to the Jewish Vilnius.
The Lithuanian film the „Ghetto“ directed by A.Juzėnas received a prize as the best feature film at the World Jewish Film Festival "Jewish Eye" in 2007.
