LITHUANIAN GDP PER CAPITA HIGHEST IN BALTICS

Lithuania enjoys the highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita expressed in purchasing power standarts among the Baltic States. A recent Eurostat report shows that Lithuania’s GDP per capita rose by four percentage points to reach 70% of the European Union average in 2012. Meanwhile, Latvia’s GDP per capita was 62% of the EU average (58% in 2011) and Estonia’s was 68% (67% in 2011).

“Invest Lithuania is contributing to economic growth in Lithuania. The foreign direct investment that we bring to Lithuania creates added-value and new jobs that stimulate economic growth,” said Milda Dargužaitė, managing director of Invest Lithuania.

Since the end of the financial crisis, Lithuania’s GDP per capita has risen steadily – by 15% since 2009. The long-term increase of GDP per capita is a sign of the country’s economic vitality.

Last year, the countries with the highest GDP per capita in the EU were Luxembourg (271% of the EU average), Austria (131%) and Ireland (129%). Besides Estonia and Latvia, Lithuanian GDP per capita was higher than in Poland (66%), Hungary (66%), Romania (49%) and Bulgaria (47%).
