Lithuanian Holocaust victims commemorated in Yad Vashem

On 11 September 2016 ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in the State of Israel participated in a commemoration event in Yad Vashem Worl Holocaust Center and Museum, dedicated to pay tribute to the memory of the Lithuanian Jews murdered in the Holocaust and commemorate the 73 years since the liquidation of the Vilnius Ghetto.

The ceremony was attended by Holocaust survivors and their families, representatives of Yad Vashem, leaders and members of Association of Vilna and Vilna vicinity Jews in Israel Beit Vilna and the Association of Lithuanian Jews in Israel, representatives of IDF and the Lithuanian Embassy in Israel.

Ambassador Edminas Bagdonas, expressed the respect for the memory of the victims of Holocaust, noting that that HaShoa in Lithuania is one of the most tragic and blackest pages in the history of Lithuania. He noted that Lithuania is changing – recent March of Remembrance in Molėtai/Molat, memorial ceremonies in Šeduva/Shadeve and other Lithuanian cities are ample demonstration of that change. The Lithuanian Government’s continues efforts to preserve the memory of the victims of Holocaust and maintain Jewish history and cultural heritage are widely supported by the Lithuanian society, especially its youth.

On behalf of the Lithuanian Embassy in Israel ambassador Edminas Bagdonas paid tribute to the victims of the Holocaust by placing a wreath at the Yad Vashem memorial.
