Lithuanian Holocaust victims commemorated in Yad Vashem
On 18 September 2017 ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in the State of Israel participated in a commemoration event in Yad Vashem World Holocaust Center and Museum, dedicated to pay tribute to the memory of the Lithuanian Jews murdered in the Holocaust and commemorate the 74 years since the liquidation of the Vilnius Ghetto. The ceremony was attended by Holocaust survivors and their families, representatives of Yad Vashem, leaders and members of Association of Vilna and Vilna vicinity Jews in Israel Beit Vilna and the Association of Lithuanian Jews in Israel, representatives of IDF and the Lithuanian Embassy in Israel.
Ambassador Edminas Bagdonas, expressed the respect for the memory of the victims of Holocaust, noting that that HaShoa in Lithuania is one of the most tragic and blackest pages in the history of Lithuania. He noted the Lithuanian Government’s continued efforts to preserve the memory of the victims of Holocaust and maintain Jewish history and cultural heritage, including memorialization of Vilnius Great Synagogue.
On behalf of the Lithuanian Embassy in Israel ambassador Edminas Bagdonas paid tribute to the victims of the Holocaust by placing a wreath at the Yad Vashem memorial.
