LITHUANIAN NATIONAL HOLIDAY IN ISRAEL
On March 10 Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Israel celebrated the 20th anniversary of Restoration of Lithuania‘s Independence at Beit Hatfutsot, the Museum of the Jewish people, in Tel Aviv. Kneset members, Government representatives, business, culture and academic elite, members of diplomatic corps, journalists and Litvaks have gathered to the festive commemoration of Lithuania’s National holiday.
The Ambassador of Lithuania in the State of Israel Darius Degutis in his welcome speech has briefly reviewed the period after restoration of Lithuania’s Independence, he particularly emphasized the significant role plaid by Litvaks in creation of Lithuanian and Israeli states. Yuli Edelstein, Minister of Information and Diaspora of Israel, and Zeev Bielski, Chairman of Knesset Israeli-Lithuanian parliamentary relations group, have sincerely congratulated everybody on the occasion of the Lithuania’s National holiday and expressed hope that successful cooperation between the two countries and peoples will in the future become even stronger and wider.
The exhibition of photographs “Lithuanian Jews are celebrating, depicting celebration of different Jewish holidays by the members of Lithuanian Jewish community was opened at the event. The exhibition was arranged by Litvaks Foundation.
Lithuanian and Israeli anthems were solemnly performed by a famous Israeli singer Limor Shapira. The student jazz band from the Center for jazz Studies at the Israeli Conservatory for Music, Tel Aviv, played at the reception. Guests were treated to the meals of Litvak cuisine.
