LITHUANIAN PM SETS UP TASK FORCE FOR WEBSITE OF WORLD LITVAKS

Lithuanian PM sets up task force for website of world Litvaks
VILNIUS, Jul 15, BNS - Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius has set
up a task force for development of a forum of heritage of Litvaks, Jews
originating from Lithuania.

Kubilius' Chancellor Deividas Matulionis said the Litvak Heritage Forum
would unite all Litvaks across the globe into a community. In Matulionis'
words, the idea of establishing the forum was proposed by Litvaks during his
recent visit in the United States.

"There is a group of initiators, a few Litvaks who think that it is
necessary to have a website that would provide more information about
historical connections and serve as a tool of communication. Later on, the
activities could expand and we could organize conferences and events,"
Matulionis told BNS.

Asked to specify the date of launching the website, he replied: "There
are wealthy Litvaks who support the idea, so it may be soon."

The task force for drafting the concept of the Litvak Heritage Forum
includes representatives of the Prime Minister's office, ministries of
Foreign Affairs, Education and Science and Culture, Lithuania's ambassador
to Israel and other persons.

The task force has been authorized to work out the concept by November
and present it to the government and international Litvak organizations.
