LITHUANIAN REPRESENTATIVES TOOK PART AT THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN JERUSALEM

On 24 November, 2011 an international conference commemorating 70 years since the annihilation of Lithuanian Jews started at “Efrata” college in Jerusalem.

At the opening of the conference, the Ambassador Darius Degutis presented activities which were undertaken by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania in order to protect and cherish Jewish culture, history and religious heritage. The Ambassador has also introduced the programme, which the Lithuanian Government has adopted in 2011, to remember and to pay tribute and respect to the memory of the Holocaust victims. Darius Degutis has presented the broad overview on the successfully developed Lithuanian-Israeli partnership and achievements of cooperation in economic, cultural, tourism and other fields.

Prof. Šarūnas Liekis, the Dean of Political science and Diplomacy Faculty at Kaunas Vytautas Magnus University, in his address on  “Lithuanian historiography and the Holocaust", emphasized the constructive bilateral academic cooperation, and a successful dialog of scientists in both countries in analysis and evaluation of the Holocaust.
