LITHUANIAN YACHTSMEN REACHED THE SHORES OF ISRAEL

On 19 July 2010 Lithuanian yachtsmen participating in the expedition „Gold of Lithuania“ devoted to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Restoration of Lithuania‘s Independence reached the shores of Israel. Lithuanian yachtsmen are making historical journey in the Mediterranean Sea  which reconstructs the pilgrim journey of Mikalojus Radvila, a nobleman of the Grand Dutchy of Lithuania to the Holy Land in the year 1583-1584. 

On 19 July Lithuanian yachtsmen  were received by the deputy and alternative mayor of Haifa Hedva Almog. On Thursday, 22 July, they had a meeting with the deputy mayor of Tel Aviv-Yaffo Nathan Woloch and other representatives of municipality, in the evening they met with Lithuanians residing in Israel.

During the meetings Lithuanian yachtsmen presented the project „Gold of Lithuania, the aim of which is to propagate Lithuania‘s name abroad, to promote business and people to people contacts. The yachtsmen have handed over the invitations from the mayor of Vilnius to the mayors of Tel Aviv-Yaffo and Haifa to visit Vilnius.

The yachting expedition is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Vilnius city municipality, Enterprise Lithuania, Lithuanian business companies.
