LITHUANIAN YOUTH DEVELOPS LINKS WITH ISRAEL
On 6th of November, 2012, Ambassador Darius Degutis met with the team of 18 students and teachers from Lithuania who spent 11 days in Israel. According to V. Toleikis, the leader of the team and the teacher of Vilnius St. Christopher High School, the purpose of this students visit to Israel was to expand their knowledge about Israel, its history and achievements. Special attention was paid to reconnecting with the Litvak community and to development of mutual ties with the Israeli youth.
This is the first of its kind Lithuanian youth visit in Israel. The trip was organized with help of the members of the Lithuanian-Israeli Friendship Association "ISRAELITA". While travelling within Israel Lithuanian students visited Yad Vashem (the Holocaust Museum and Research Centre), Beit Hatfutsot global Jewish Diaspora Museum in Tel Aviv and became acquainted with the life in kibbutz.
While talking about the Lithuanian-Israeli relations D. Degutis stressed the importance of deepening people-to people contacts which is the key element in further strengthening of bilateral ties. D. Degutis expressed the hope that in the near future a visit of the Israeli youth group to Lithuania will be organized.
