MEETING WITH MAYOR OF ASHDOD

On 18 January 2009 Ambassador Darius Degutis had a meeting with Mayor of Ashdod Yehiel Lasri. Ambassador discussed with the Mayor possibilities for cooperation between Ashdod and Lithuanian cities and cooperation in the field of tourism.

Ashdod is the fifth-largest city in Israel, an important regional industrial centre. The Port of Ashdod is one of country’s largest ports accounting for more than a half of the Israel's imported goods. The population of Ashdod is very diverse in its origins, approximately one third of residents are immigrants from the former Soviet Union.
