On 29 October 2009 Ambassador D. Degutis had meetings with several high level officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel during which future cooperation between Lithuania and Israel in the spheres of mutual interest as well the programme of the forthcoming visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania to Israel were discussed.
Director of the Department for Combating Antisemitism informed the Ambassador about preparation for the International Conference of the Global Forum for Combating Antisemitism. The conference will take place on 16-17 December 2009 at Crown Plazza hotel in Jerusalem.
During the meeting with the Director of Economic Affairs division Irit Ben-Abba future economic cooperation, investment promotion, expansion of business contacts, the planned Israeli business mission to Lithuania in 2010 were discussed. Successful investment of the Israeli pharmaceutical company “Teva” to “Sicor Biotech” of Lithuania is yielding outstanding results. The latter was acknowledged as the most advanced company of high-tech business sector in Lithuania in 2009.
The meeting with the Director of Cultural and Scientific Affairs Arye Mekel was devoted to discuss the expansion of cultural cooperation, youth exchange programmes and possible support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel to the “March of the Living” project of 2010.
