MEETINGS WITH GILBOA REGION (ISRAEL) AND JENIN (WEST BANK) REGION LEADERS

On 22 November 2009 the Ambassador of Lithuania to Israel Darius Degutis together with the staff of the Embassy visited Gilboa region in Israel and  Jenin in the West Bank.

 

Daniel Atar, Mayor of Gilboa region, population of  which is  composed of 60% of Jewish Israelis and 40% of Arab Israelis, told about  the activities of the Regional Council directed towards peaceful coexistence of two nations, presented the cooperation projects in the spheres of economics and tourism with Jenin in the West Bank which  Gilboa Regional Council started to implement in 2004. The Jamala/Gilboa border crossing point opened for vehicles two weeks ago should significantly increase trade in the West Bank and stimulate local economies. Establishment of a joint industrial park, infrastructure of which is already on the ground, could give a boost to the regional economy.

 

During the meeting with the governor of Jenin Moussa Katura economic situation in the region, joint economic projects with Gilboa region in Israel were discussed. The increased security situation in Jenin was taken note of. Possibilities of cooperation between Gilboa and Jenin regions with one of the regions in Lithuania were also discussed.
