PARLIAMENT ANNOUNCES 2011 AS YEAR OF MEMORY OF HOLOCAUST VICTIMS IN LITHUANIA
Under the resolution, the loss of Lithuania's Jewish community during the years of Nazi occupation is a gigantic tragic part of common history. The document also condemns the genocide committed by Nazi and their local collaborators in Lithuania during the Nazi occupation.
According to the resolution, the decision is made as continuation of the policy envisaged in Lithuania's Constitution on peaceful coexistence of nations and struggle against any form of anti-Semitism.
The government was commissioned to draft a program dedicated to paying tribute to Holocaust victims and honoring Lithuanian people who fought Fascism and rescued Jews, restoring historical and cultural heritage of Jews in Lithuania and allocate funds for financing the program.
About 200,000 Jews perished in Lithuania in the framework of the genocide policy during the 1941-1944 occupation.
