PROMINENT LITVAK HONORED AT THE LITHUANIAN EMBASSY IN TEL AVIV
On 13 January 2014 Lithuanian Ambassador in Israel Darius Degutis presented professor Joseph Press, the Director of Schneider Children’s Medical Center, with the “Global Lithuania Award 2013”. Joseph Press who was born in Kaunas where he finished medical studies was awarded in the category “Brain exchange” for expertise and knowledge sharing
Ambassador D. Degutis thanked Joseph Press for promoting cooperation with Lithuanian doctors and medical institutions, strengthening their professional partnerships and helping Lithuanian children in medical attendance.
Global Lithuania Awards were organized for the second time. This year a total of 41 candidates from 13 countries were nominated for the awards among whom there were two more famous litvaks. In the category “Promotion of Lithuania through professional activities” Icchokas Meras, a famous writer living in Israel was nominated for his literary works acknowledged world-wide and his personal contribution to establishing diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Israel. In the category “Investments promotion” for investment into and development of food production company Bidvest- Nowaco and investments into Lithuanian Air airlines, South Aftrican litvak, a founder and CEO of “Bidvest“ company Brian Joffe was nominated.
