PROMINENT LITVAKS HONORED BY GLOBAL LITHUANIAN LEADERS AWARDS
On 3 January 2014 at the Presidential Palace in Vilnius the Official ceremony of Global Lithuania Awards 2013 took place. During the ceremony, Lithuanians and representatives of Lithuanian diaspora prominent in science, business, culture and sports were awarded for their outstanding contributions to the prosperity and global standing of Lithuania. The winners were announced by the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė. The winner in the category “Brain exchange” for expertise and knowledge sharing was announced professor Joseph Press. Joseph Press was born in Kaunas where he finished medical studies. At present he is Director of Schneider Children’s Medical Center. Joseph Press was nominated for promoting cooperation with Lithuanian doctors and medical institutions, strengthening their professional partnerships and helping Lithuanian children in medical attendance.
Two more famous litvaks were nominated for the Global Lithuanian awards among the total of 41 candidates from 13 countries. In the category “Promotion of Lithuania through professional activities” Icchokas Meras, a famous writer living in Israel was nominated for his literary works acknowledged world-wide and his personal contribution to establishing diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Israel. In the category “Investments promotion” for investment into and development of food production company Bidvest- Nowaco and investments into Lithuanian Air airlines, South Aftrican litvak, a founder and CEO of “Bidvest“ company Brian Joffe was nominated.
The Global Lithuanian Awards celebrate the achievements of Lithuanians and representatives of Lithuanian diaspora who exhibit remarkable talent, exceptional vision, ambition and who are contributing to creating global opportunities for Lithuania.
The Awards are initiated by Global Lithuanian Leaders (GLL) forum in close cooperation with its partners – Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Enterprise Lithuania. GLL is a high impact networking platform and source of opportunities for Lithuania by connecting professionals in the world.
