RIGHTEOUS AMONG THE NATIONS FROM LITHUANIA HONORED AT YAD VASHEM
On April 13 a solemn ceremony to honor the Righteous Among the Nations from Lithuania Elena Laurinavičienė (posthumously) and her sons Jonas (posthumously), Bronislovas and late Pranas was held at Yad Vashem. Laurinavičius family risked their lives to save Jews in Lithuania during World War II.
The medal and certificate of honor of the Righteous Among the Nations was presented to Elena Laurinaviciene‘s daughter Aldona Tomkevičienė and a memorial plaque was unveiled in the Yad Vashem Garden of Righteous Among the Nations.
The grandson of the saved by the Lithuanian family Chaim Leiba Tacas, Julius Tacas, came from New York in order to take part at the ceremony. Members of Tacas family residing in Israel and Lithuanian Ambassador in the State of Israel participated at the ceremony.
On 5 October 2010 the President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite awarded (posthumously) E.Laurinavičienė and her two sons late Jonas and Pranas with the Life Saving Crosses for saving Jews from Nazi persecution during the World War II.
