SEMINAR FOR EDUCATORS AND POLICY MAKERS FROM LITHUANIA IN YAD VASHEM

On 5-16 October 2010 a group of Lithuanian educators and policy makers, headed by Vidas Bacys, Vice minister of Education, participated in a seminar organized by Yad Vashem ICHEIC Program for Holocaust Education in Europe. In a group of 25 persons – Ronaldas Račinskas, Executive Director of the International Commission for the Evaluation of the Crimes of Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania, Ieva Sadzevičienė, Head of the Vilna Gaon State Museum Tolerance Center, history professors from higher education establishments, directors and teachers from different high schools of Lithuania.

During seminar topics from European and Lithuanian Jewish history, antisemitism and  Nazi ideology, Holocaust education and other related issues were discussed. Participants of the seminar had an opportunity to get acquainted with Yad Vashem archives and research activities, to make a tour of Yad Vashem.

On 13 October Ambassador of Lithuania in Israel Darius Degutis had a meeting with Richelle Budd Caplan, Director of European Department of the International School for Holocaust Studies and a group of Lithuanian educators and policy makers participating in the seminar. During the meeting Holocaust education programme in Lithuania, perspectives of future cooperation between Yad Vashem and Lithuanian education institutions were discussed.
