THE DAY OF LITHUANIAN JEWS GENOCIDE WAS COMMEMORATED IN YAD VASHEM

On 20 September 2010 the Embassy of Lithuania in Israel in cooperation with the Association of Vilna and Vilna vicinity Jews in Israel held a memorial ceremony for the Lithuanian Jews who perished in the Holocaust at the Yad Vashem memorial in Jerusalem. The event was dedicated to mark 67 years since liquidation of Vilna Ghetto.

In memory of the victims of the WWII genocide Lithuanian ambassador Darius Degutis laid a wreath in the Remembrance Hall of Yad Vashem memorial.

Ambassador Darius Degutis, Director General of Yad Vashem Nathan Eitan, Chairman of the Association of Vilna and Vilna vicinity Jews Michael Shemiavitz, Chairman of the Association of Lithuanian Jews in Israel Joseph A. Melamed made speeches at the memorial ceremony. Na’ama Galil, Director of the Guiding Department, Commemoration and Public Relations Division of Yad Vashem gave a lecture “The Klooga camp - Life and Loss”.

The memorial ceremony also included musical performances of the choir of Vilnius Ghetto survivors.
