The Embassy of Lithuania participates at the events dedicated to International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Ambassador of Lithuania, Mr Edminas Bagdonas participated at the Yad Vashem’s event marking the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust at Mount of Remembrance in Jerusalem.

On January 27, ambassador participated at MASSUAH International Institute for Holocaust Studies event devoted to International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust.

On January 26 Ramūnas Davidonis, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy participated at the meeting organized by The Israel Project with Holocaust survivor Tova Taitelbaum. She  was born during the war in Slovakia, survived the Holocaust after being secretly raised by a local Christian family. Together with her son Tova Taitelbaum wrote a book documenting her family’s ordeals, focusing on her father’s actions during the Holocaust which saved thousands of Jews.

On January 26, Minister Counsellor took part at the event organized by Japanese Embassy - screening of Japanese film “Persona Non Grata”. The film details the life of Chiune Sugihara, a diplomat of Japan. During his time at the Japanese consulate in Lithuania in year 1940, Sugihara disobeyed his Government orders and issued more than 2000 Japanese travel visas saving 6000 Polish and Lithuanian Jews fleeing Nazi Germany.
