THE LEGACY OF THE GREAT LITHUANIAN RABBIS IN MODERN LIFE
On March 5, 2013 the book launch of „The Legacy: Teachings for Life from the Great Lithuanian Rabbis“ written by Berel Wein and Warren Goldstein was held at the Jerusalem Great Synagogue.
Rabbis Berel Wein and Warren Goldstein revealed to the audience importance of the values formed by the famous Lithuanian rabbis in the modern world. According to Rabbi Berel Wein, this book is not a historical analysis of a rabbinical literature, but the presentation of religious values and their impact on every individual’s life. The book consists of nine chapters, each of which describes one value to be followed by everyone in today's life. The authors state that: “On a practical and strategic level, focusing on a few key objectives helps people to achieve success because the objectives are clear. This clarity prevents distraction and confusion and provides a clear framework of eternal principles in a changing world, to inspire strength and commitment.”
Berel Wein is an American-born Orthodox rabbi, scholar, lecturer, and writer. He is regarded as an expert on Jewish history; he is also an author of many books and articles related to Judaism.
Warren Goldstein was born in Pretoria, has been the Chief Rabbi of South Africa since 2005. Rabbi Goldstein heads a project on behalf of the National Religious Leaders Forum and in partnership with the Department of Education to establish a Bill of Responsibilities for schools across South Africa with the aim of educating and motivating a new generation of South Africans in the values of responsibility, compassion and dignity, among others.
