THE LITHUANIAN STATE AWARD HANDED OVER TO THE ISRAELI CITIZEN JOSEPH SZWARC

On the occasion of the 4th International Holocaust Commemoration  Day the Lithuanian Ambassador handed over the Lithuanian State award to the Israeli citizen . Mr Szwarc received the award - the Life Saving Cross - on behalf of his mother Sidija Liuba Szwarc (posthumously). In 1941 Mrs Sidija Liuba Szwarc hid the Kuklianski family (father with 3 children) in her house  in Grodno (today in Belarus) from Nazi persecution.

 

The Life Saving Cross is one of the most prestigious state awards in Lithuania. It is bestowed by the President of the Republic for those who saved the others risking their own lives. More than 1000 people have received the Life Saving Cross for their heroic deeds during the Holocaust.
