THE MAYORS OF BIRSTONAS AND TRAKAI FIND NEW PARTNERS IN ISRAEL
The Mayors of Birstonas and Trakai, who were attending Lithuanian tourism events in Israel, established the relations with the prominent cities of Israel. On 12 February 2014 the Mayor of Birstonas Mrs. Nijolė Dirginčiene visited Tiberias, which is one of the famous Holy sites and a renowned resort. Mrs. N.Dirgičienė met with the Mayor of Tiberias Mr. Joseph Ben David to discuss the possibilities for cooperation between the two cities.
The Mayor of Trakai district Mr. Vytautas Zalieckas visited another historic city – Akko, where he met with the Mayor Mr. Shimon Lankri, who expressed a great interest in partnership with Trakai.
During both meetings it was decided to prepare two twin town agreements and to initiate common projects between the municipalities. The mayors agreed that special emphasis should be placed on cooperation in the fields of tourism, sport and culture and the development of joint investment projects.
The Mayors or Tiberias and Akko are planning to visit Lithuania in near future to sign the cooperation agreements.
