On 28 April, 2014 a commemoration ceremony to honor the victims of the Holocaust in Lithuania was held at Tel Aviv Kiriat Shaul cemetery memorial. The commemoration was organized by the association of Jews from Vilnius and Vicinity in Israel – Beit Vilna. The solemn commemoration was attended by the Holocaust survivors, their families, representatives of Israeli defense forces and scout organizations cooperating with Beit Vilna and Lithuanian Ambassador Darius Degutis.

Ambassador Degutis paid tribute to those who perished during the Holocaust. In his remarks he stressed the importance of remembering and honoring painful and tragic pages of the history of Lithuania. He also noted the dedication of Lithuania and its people to build the future of Lithuanian-Jewish relations based on mutual trust and goodwill.

D. Degutis told about the ongoing commemoration events in Lithuania, including the Righteous among the Nations award ceremony which was held at the Government Office and attended by the Prime Minister A. Butkevičius. Ambassador Degutis noted that the Lithuanian government pays special attention to the awareness of commemoration of the Holocaust memory in Lithuania and preservation of the history and cultural heritage of the Lithuanian Jews.
