On November 8, the Israeli city of Netanya and the municipality of Birštonas became Sister Cities. This is the 7th municipal level agreement between the Republic of Lithuania and the State of Israel.
The Sister-City agreement was signed by Mayor of Netanya Ms. Miriam Feirberg and Birštonas Municipality Mayor Ms. Nijolė Dirginčienė during an official ceremony in Netanya Municipality. Lithuanian Ambassador to Israel Ms. Lina Antanavičienė, representatives of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the media also took part in the signing ceremony.
Netanya, like Birštonas, is a resort city. It is one of the largest cities in Israel in the central part of the country, with a population of about 257 thousand. The Honorary Consulate of Lithuania was opened in Netanya earlier this year.
