TRIBUTE PAID TO HOLOCAUST VICTIMS IN PANERIAI
Today, Paneriai memorial has held the ceremony of the March of the Living for the sixth time, thus paying tribute to the Holocaust victims. The March of the Living has covered the road from the train station to Paneriai Memorial, i.e. a part of the road walked down by the Vilnius Ghetto prisoners before the massacre in Paneriai forest.
The First Deputy Chancellor of the Government, Remigijus Motuzas, has underlined that Lithuania will never forget this tragedy. “Together with you today, I bow my head in memory of the Holocaust victims. Paneriai witnessed brutal killings of our friends and neighbours from all over Lithuania. The Holocaust caused pain to us all, as we lost our fellow countrymen, who, together with us, were building the bright future of our country. Their memory will always be with us”,– said Remigijus Motuzas, who wished that tolerance would prevail, adding that Lithuania will continue to preserve the unique Litvak heritage, bring up a new generation, which will appreciate shared human values and the spirit of humanism.
This year, Lithuania is marking the 70th anniversary of Kaunas and Šiauliai ghetto liquidation.
