Vilna Gaon's manuscripts included into UNESCO „Memory of the World“ register
The manuscripts of famous Lithuanian Jewish thinker Vilna Gaon have been included into UNESCO „Memory of the World“ register. The manuscripts of Elijah ben Solomon Zalman, Vilna Gaon, who lived in the 18th century, were published across Europe in 1799 -1940. Collection also includes several rare pieces – almost the only copies held in Lithuania.
According to the National Library, none of the books were published by the Vilnius Gaon. All texts were carefully summarized and written by his students, sons and sons-in-law. Collection was edited and published only after the death of a thinker.
The Vilna Gaon wrote on all major issues relating to Judaism and Jewish religious outlook.
